Basilicata

Basilicata

Region of southern Italy, with a largely mountainous (47%) and hilly (45%) territory. Only in the east, on the short stretch of coast on the Ionian Sea, is there a flat area; to the west there is another coastal stretch of about 30 km on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The highest peaks rise near the border with Campania and Calabria and culminate in Mount Pollino (2,267 meters). The main rivers almost all descend towards the Ionian, and have a torrential regime, with long summer periods of dry; the largest are the Basento and the Agri.
