Emilia Romagna

Emilia Romagna

Region of northern Italy, mostly flat (48%), hilly 27% and mountainous 25%; to the east it is bathed by the Adriatic Sea. The official name was modified in 1947 with the addition of the term Romagna.

The southern part is characterized, in all its extension, by the Apennines, which reach the maximum height with Monte Cimone (2,165 meters). The northern border is instead almost completely marked by the Po, the largest Italian river. Many of its tributaries descend from the mountains, such as Secchia, Panaro and Taro; other important rivers instead flow directly into the Adriatic (Reno, Savio). A few kilometers from the sea we find the Valli di Comacchio, a large marshy area with brackish waters.
