Puglia

Puglia

Puglia is the easternmost region of the whole of Italy and is located in the south of our state, is bathed by the Adriatic Sea to the north-east and the Ionian Sea to the south. The territory is rather low and mountainous at only 1.5%, while it is flat at 53% and hilly at 45.5%.

The highest point is reached with Monte Cornacchia (1,152 meters); the rivers are very scarce, poor in water and concentrated in the northern part, the most important being the Ofanto. Near the Gargano there are the 2 largest Italian coastal lakes, Lake Lesina and Varano, a few meters deep; the small Tremiti islands are part of Puglia.
