Sicilia

Sicily, besides being the southernmost region, is also in first place as a surface and is the largest island in the Mediterranean, is bathed by three seas: the Ionian to the east, the Tyrrhenian to the north and the Sea of Sicily to the south. The territory is mostly hilly (61%), 25% mountainous and 14% flat.

Mount Etna (3.323 meters), a very active volcano, dominates the north-eastern part of the island and is by far the highest Sicilian point. Some archipelagos and islands belong to the regional territory: the Aeolian, Egadi, Pelagie, Pantelleria and Ustica. The rivers have torrential regime, the longest are the Salso and the Simeto.
